## TL;DR

Adela's blood test in development for 20 cancer types, built on reading DNA methylation across the whole genome; no peer-reviewed screening results yet.

## Summary

Adela, founded on cell-free methylated DNA immunoprecipitation work from Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, is developing a test for 20 pre-selected cancer types (company release, 26 May 2026) alongside its residual disease test. The CAMPERR case-control study (NCT05366881) is training and validating the platform across 20 cancer types. The only performance reported is a company conference figure: an interim AACR 2023 training readout across 12 cancer types with an area under the curve of 0.94 (0.92 at stage I), without sensitivity or specificity. No peer-reviewed multi-cancer paper, regulatory status or price was found.

## Fields

- Kind: Treatment
- Status: emerging
- Last checked: 2026-10-29
- Tags: test; mced; evidence:insufficient
- Brand: Adela
- Modality: Multi-cancer early detection blood test in development (genome-wide methylome enrichment)
- Mechanism: Enriches every methylated fragment of cell-free DNA without bisulphite conversion and classifies the genome-wide pattern, to detect cancer and tell cancer types apart.

## Notes

- Evidence grade insufficient for the claim that taking this test reduces late-stage diagnosis or cancer deaths: no randomised trial of it has reported either outcome, and its published performance comes from case-control or single-arm studies. The only randomised result for any multi-cancer test, NHS-Galleri, did not show fewer stage III or IV cancers.
- What a result means: a positive result is a reason for further tests, not a diagnosis; a negative result does not rule cancer out and does not replace the screening tests that have been shown to work (bowel, breast, cervical and, where eligible, lung screening).
