## Summary

Statistics Canada describes the Canadian Cancer Registry as a person-based, population-based registry of every new primary cancer diagnosed among Canadian residents since 1992, governed by the Canadian Council of Cancer Registries, a collaboration between the 13 provincial and territorial cancer registries and Statistics Canada's Centre for Population Health Data. The provinces and territories keep ultimate responsibility for completeness and quality; Statistics Canada is the custodian. Its most recent release, on 27 February 2026, covers reference year 2023.

Its limits shape every national figure. Cancer incidence data are currently not available for Nova Scotia for diagnosis years 2020 onward; cross-provincial de-duplication was last completed to the end of 2022 for every province and territory except Quebec, where it is ongoing, and Nova Scotia, where it stops at 2019; Quebec's registry changed its sources in 2011 to 2013, so earlier Quebec counts are underestimates; and Ontario did not report in situ bladder cancers from 1992 to 2009. The Canadian Cancer Statistics reports published with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Public Health Agency of Canada draw on this registry and the Canadian Vital Statistics Death Database; the 2025 report excluded Quebec cases from 2018 onward because they had not been submitted.
