## TL;DR

Cancell, also sold as Cantron and Protocel, is a liquid mixture of common industrial chemicals promoted since the 1930s as a cure for cancer and many other diseases. No animal or human study has shown it is safe or effective, a court has banned its distribution in the United States, and its makers discourage combining it with real treatment.

## Summary

Cancell was devised by James Sheridan in the 1930s and has been made in varying forms by different manufacturers, containing chemicals such as catechol, nitric acid, sodium sulphite, potassium hydroxide and sulphuric acid. Its promoters claim it lowers the 'vibrational frequency' or respiration of cancer cells until they revert to a primitive state and are cleared. Memorial Sloan Kettering's About Herbs page states that this theory is not supported by scientific evidence, notes that the makers discourage combining it with conventional oncology treatment, and advises patients to avoid it. The NCI PDQ summary, no longer being updated, states that it is a mixture of common chemicals none of which is known to treat any cancer, that no animal or human study has been published in a peer-reviewed journal showing safety or effectiveness, and that there is a permanent injunction against its distribution in the United States. The practical danger is the advice to stop treatment that works.
