## TL;DR

Namibia's national cancer charity: interim homes for patients in treatment, free loan of equipment such as beds and wheelchairs, financial help for patients without medical aid, and the national cancer incidence reports.

## Summary

The Cancer Association of Namibia was founded in 1968 by the surgeon Dr Abraham Bernard May as the Cancer Association of South West Africa, reporting to the national association in South Africa; it became independent in 1978 and later took its present name. It is registered as an incorporated association not for gain and as a welfare organisation (WO30). It lends hospital beds, wheelchairs, oxygen and other equipment free of charge, sells stoma and nutrition products at cost, and gives financial help to patients without medical aid or with low incomes. It runs interim homes in Windhoek and Swakopmund, including House Acacia for adults and the CHICA home, and centres in Erongo and Hardap. It presented the first Namibian cancer incidence report in 1998, and its chief executive is National Director of the Namibia National Cancer Registry. UICC lists it as a Full Member.
