## TL;DR

Dendreon makes sipuleucel-T (Provenge), the first autologous cellular immunotherapy approved for cancer, for metastatic prostate cancer; the company went bankrupt in 2014 and has been owned by China's Sanpower group since 2017.

## Summary

Dendreon, now based in Seal Beach, California, developed sipuleucel-T (Provenge), an autologous cellular immunotherapy in which a patient's own antigen-presenting cells are activated against prostatic acid phosphatase and reinfused; it was approved by the FDA in 2010 for asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer after the IMPACT trial. High cost and slow uptake led the company into bankruptcy in 2014; Valeant bought the assets in 2015 and sold the business to the Sanpower Group in 2017, which continues to market Provenge in the United States. OnCo records it as a registry sponsor of phase 3 cancer trials.
