## TL;DR

Cell therapies built from a rare T-cell type that recognises stressed cancer cells without needing tissue matching, making them candidates for off-the-shelf products.

## Summary

Gamma-delta T cells recognise stress ligands and phosphoantigens on tumour cells independently of HLA, so donor cells can be given without matching and without causing graft-versus-host disease. Companies expand the Vδ1 or Vδ2 subsets from healthy donors, sometimes adding a CAR, and early trials in leukaemia, lymphoma and solid tumours are under way. Persistence after infusion and manufacturing scale are the main hurdles.
