## TL;DR

Gavi pays for HPV vaccine in lower-income countries so national programmes can give it to girls for free, where cervical cancer kills most.

## Summary

Most cervical cancer deaths happen in low- and middle-income countries with little screening, which makes vaccination the most effective tool available. Gavi co-finances HPV vaccine introduction and supply for eligible countries and, since the shift to a single-dose schedule endorsed by the WHO, has been able to reach far more girls with the same doses. The programme page lists supported countries and progress. For a family in a supported country, the vaccine is free through the national immunisation programme.
