The Milan laboratory institute founded in 1998 by the Italian cancer research charity AIRC, where 28 research laboratories work on how cancers start and evolve, and from where the colorectal liquid-biopsy work of Alberto Bardelli is led.

## Summary

IFOM states that it was founded in 1998 by FIRC, the foundation arm of the cancer charity AIRC, to study the molecular mechanisms of tumour formation and development with a view to rapid transfer to the clinic; its headquarters are at Via Adamello 16 in Milan. AIRC's 2024 accounts record 29 million euros directed to IFOM out of more than 141 million euros the charity gave to research that year. IFOM's site listed 28 research laboratories in November 2026, among them Alberto Bardelli's, and it is the registered sponsor of academic trials on ClinicalTrials.gov, including the Sagittarius colorectal cancer trial.
