## TL;DR

The International Prognostic Score counts seven factors at diagnosis of advanced Hodgkin lymphoma; the more present, the higher the risk that standard treatment will not hold the disease.

## Summary

From 5,141 patients with advanced Hodgkin lymphoma treated with combination chemotherapy, Hasenclever and colleagues (New England Journal of Medicine 1998) found seven factors with similar effects: albumin below 4 g/dl, haemoglobin below 10.5 g/dl, male sex, age 45 or over, Ann Arbor stage IV, white count of 15,000/mm3 or more, and low lymphocyte count. Freedom from progression in that era fell from 84% with no factors to 42% with five or more. The authors could not identify a distinct very-high-risk group from routine features.
