Surgeon who led the CROSS trial, which made chemoradiotherapy before surgery the standard for oesophageal cancer.

## Summary

Jan van Lanschot led the Dutch CROSS trial showing neoadjuvant carboplatin, paclitaxel and radiotherapy followed by surgery nearly doubles median survival compared with surgery alone in oesophageal and junctional cancer, a regimen adopted worldwide.
