## TL;DR

Nice oncologist who led TPExtreme, the GORTEC trial that showed the shorter TPEx regimen is a reasonable alternative to EXTREME for recurrent or metastatic head and neck cancer.

## Summary

Joël Guigay is a medical oncologist at Centre Antoine Lacassagne in Nice and a leader of the French GORTEC head and neck group. He was first author of the 2021 Lancet Oncology report of TPExtreme, the phase 2 trial comparing docetaxel, cisplatin and cetuximab (TPEx) with the EXTREME regimen as first-line treatment for recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous-cell carcinoma; TPEx did not lengthen survival but was less toxic and shorter, and is used as an alternative.
