## TL;DR

Labcorp's blood tests for leftover cancer: a whole-genome version for stage III colon cancer and a personalised-panel version for early breast and lung cancer.

## Summary

Labcorp launched Plasma Detect in April 2024 for research use, as a tumour-informed whole-genome MRD test validated in early-stage colon cancer, and made it available for clinical use on 23 April 2025 in stage III colon cancer, initially through an early experience programme, with a stated limit of detection (LOD95) of 0.005%. On 13 January 2026 it made the whole-genome test, now Plasma Detect Genome, available nationwide for stage III colon cancer and added Plasma Detect ID, a whole-exome-guided personalised panel for stage I-III breast cancer and stage I-IIIA non-small cell lung cancer. Labcorp bought selected assets of Invitae on 5 August 2024, and Plasma Detect ID is listed in Invitae's test catalogue with the same 18-to-50-variant exome design as Invitae's Personalized Cancer Monitoring assay (Molecular Diagnosis & Therapy 2023). The tests have not been cleared or approved by the FDA.

## Fields

- Kind: Test
- Status: emerging
- Last checked: 2026-11-03
- Also known as: Plasma Detect Genome; Plasma Detect ID; Labcorp Plasma Detect ID MRD
- Tags: test
- Brand: Labcorp Plasma Detect
- Modality: Tumour-informed ctDNA minimal residual disease test (whole-genome and whole-exome designs)
- Mechanism: Two tumour-informed designs. Plasma Detect Genome uses whole-genome sequencing of the tumour and does not need a bespoke panel to be manufactured for each patient. Plasma Detect ID uses exome sequencing of tumour and blood to design a patient-specific panel of 18 to 50 variants.

## Notes

- What a result means: the same as other tumour-informed MRD tests; ask whether a positive result would change your treatment before having it.
- Not confirmed: Medicare coverage for either test (none found on Labcorp's pages, and neither is listed in the MolDX billing article A58376), and an explicit statement that Plasma Detect ID is the renamed Invitae Personalized Cancer Monitoring test; the link rests on the shared catalogue and design.
