## TL;DR

An academic trials group based in Porto Alegre that runs cancer studies across Brazil and Latin America, from drug trials to the cohorts that showed how breast cancer care differs between public and private patients.

## Summary

The Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group is an academic clinical research group whose investigators give its address as Porto Alegre. ClinicalTrials.gov lists 47 studies with LACOG as lead sponsor when checked on 3 November 2026: phase 2 drug trials (among them datopotamab deruxtecan with carboplatin and pembrolizumab for untreated brain metastases from lung cancer, NCT06822543), one phase 3 trial of anthracycline and taxane sequencing in locally advanced HER2-negative breast cancer (NCT04540692), and many cohort and registry studies that describe how cancer presents and is treated in Brazil and Latin America.

The best known of those cohorts is AMAZONA III (GBECAM 0115, NCT02663973), run with the Brazilian breast cancer study group GBECAM and the Ministry of Health: 2,950 women with newly diagnosed invasive breast cancer at 23 Brazilian sites from 2016 to 2018. Women treated in the public system were diagnosed at stage III more often than privately insured women (33.5 against 14.7 per cent) and waited longer from diagnosis to first treatment (median 56 against 34 days).

OnCo could not reach the group's own website on 3 November 2026, so its founding date and membership are not given here.
