## TL;DR

In MAPS, adding the anti-VEGF antibody bevacizumab to chemotherapy lengthened survival by about three months, the first improvement after pemetrexed.

## Summary

MAPS, trial NCT00651456 sponsored by the French IFCT group and reported in 2016, showed that adding the anti-VEGF antibody bevacizumab to first-line cisplatin and pemetrexed in unresectable pleural mesothelioma lengthened survival by about three months, the first improvement after pemetrexed itself. It randomised 448 patients and met its primary overall survival endpoint, establishing angiogenesis as a valid target in the disease. OnCo links it to mesothelioma, anti-angiogenic therapy, VEGF as a target and pemetrexed. Bevacizumab is listed by NCCN for mesothelioma but never received an FDA indication, so use varies, and because no second phase 3 replicated it while nintedanib failed in LUME-Meso, whether the anti-angiogenic benefit is real or specific to bevacizumab is the open question.
