## TL;DR

Quebec surgeon who pioneered fertility-sparing surgery for cervical cancer and led SHAPE, the trial that showed a simple hysterectomy is enough for low-risk early cervical cancer.

## Summary

Marie Plante is a gynaecologic oncologist at CHU de Québec - Université Laval and a pioneer of radical trachelectomy, which lets young women with early cervical cancer keep their fertility. She was first author of the 2024 New England Journal of Medicine report of the Canadian Cancer Trials Group SHAPE trial, which showed that simple hysterectomy was non-inferior to radical hysterectomy for pelvic recurrence in low-risk early-stage cervical cancer, with fewer urinary complications.
