## Summary

The Mast Cell Disease Society (TMS) was founded in 1995 by Bill Abbottsmith, Linda Buchheit, Olive Clayson, Iris Dissinger, Bill Hingst and Joe Palk, who found one another through the National Organization for Rare Disorders, according to its mission and history page; its first support group meeting was held in Baltimore in 1994. Its stated mission is to champion research, education and patient care and to unite the mast cell disease community. The same page says that children with mastocytosis have a greater than 75 per cent chance of outgrowing it at or before puberty, and that adults with indolent systemic mastocytosis can have a near-normal life expectancy if they avoid triggers and take their medication. The IRS records it in Sterling, Massachusetts, with tax exemption issued in April 1997.
