## Summary

The Mathiwos Wondu Foundation, formerly the Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society, was established on 17 April 2004 by the parents of Mathiwos Wondu, who died of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2003 aged four after treatment at Black Lion (Tikur Anbessa) Hospital, together with 13 other founding members. It began with childhood cancer and now also works on breast and cervical cancer, lung cancer and tobacco. It says it has supported more than 5,000 patients and carers, covering transport, medicines and diagnostic services the hospital does not provide, food, and psychosocial support at its 24-bed Psychosocial Support Center. It is a registered Ethiopian resident charity (number 1382). Its UICC profile describes how it seconded a technical adviser to the Federal Ministry of Health while the national cancer control plan was being drafted. UICC lists it as a Full Member.
