A physician-scientist specialising in natural killer cells, leukaemia and immunotherapy, he is known for work on natural killer cell biology, IL-15 and NK-based immunotherapy, and formerly directed Ohio State's cancer centre. His papers include a Blood review of human natural killer cells and a Blood study showing CD56bright natural killer cells in human lymph nodes are activated by T cell-derived IL-2, linking adaptive and innate immunity. His work bears on acute myeloid leukaemia, CAR-NK therapy and engineered cytokines.
