## Summary

NTP Radioisotopes, a subsidiary of the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation, irradiates targets in the SAFARI-1 research reactor at Pelindaba and processes molybdenum-99, iodine-131 and lutetium-177 for export to generator makers and radiopharmacies worldwide. It converted its molybdenum production to low-enriched uranium targets ahead of other producers. Regulator-ordered shutdowns of its processing facility in 2017 and 2018 removed a large share of world molybdenum-99 supply for months and showed how few processors there are.
