## TL;DR

A German blood test sold through a private health insurance add-on, which claims to signal cancer of any type; its published evidence is small studies and case reports.

## Summary

Zyagnum AG of Darmstadt markets PanTum Detect as tumour-independent (it does not say which organ) and states on its website that it is IVDR-certified under Regulation (EU) 2017/746 with notified body TÜV Rheinland (CE 0197). It is sold through the HanseMerkur Krebs-Scan insurance add-on, reported at about 238 euros a year for a 50-year-old (Pharmazeutische Zeitung, 10 August 2023); that is an insurance premium, not a test price.

The largest peer-reviewed study found (Saman et al., Cancer Biomarkers 2020) tested 62 patients with bile duct, pancreatic or colorectal cancer against 29 controls: the combined score was positive in all 62 and in none of the healthy controls, and in 7.7% of 13 people with inflammation. Other publications are case reports. Higher sensitivity and specificity figures circulating in news coverage could not be traced to a primary source.

## Fields

- Kind: Treatment
- Status: emerging
- Last checked: 2026-10-29
- Also known as: EDIM test; EDIM-CS
- Tags: test; mced; evidence:insufficient
- Brand: PanTum Detect
- Modality: Cancer blood test (Apo10 and TKTL1 epitopes in monocytes, flow cytometry)
- Mechanism: Epitope detection in monocytes (EDIM): flow cytometry measures two markers, Apo10 and TKTL1, inside blood monocytes that have taken up tumour material, giving a tumour-independent score.

## Notes

- Evidence grade insufficient for the claim that taking this test reduces late-stage diagnosis or cancer deaths: no randomised trial of it has reported either outcome, and its published performance comes from case-control or single-arm studies. The only randomised result for any multi-cancer test, NHS-Galleri, did not show fewer stage III or IV cancers.
- IVDR certification concerns analytical and clinical performance claims made to a notified body, not proof that screening helps.
- What a result means: a positive result is a reason for further tests, not a diagnosis; a negative result does not rule cancer out and does not replace the screening tests that have been shown to work (bowel, breast, cervical and, where eligible, lung screening).
