# CHAARTED: chemohormonal therapy in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer

## TL;DR

Giving six cycles of docetaxel at the start of hormone therapy for metastatic prostate cancer lengthened survival by over a year in men with high-volume disease, the first trial to show that early chemotherapy helps.

## Summary

Phase 3 trial of 790 men with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer randomised to androgen deprivation alone or with six cycles of docetaxel.

Median overall survival was 57.6 versus 44.0 months (hazard ratio 0.61) overall, and 49.2 versus 32.2 months in high-volume disease; long-term follow-up showed no benefit in low-volume disease.
