## TL;DR

A study of 67,278 patients whose tumours had both RNA and DNA sequencing, showing that RNA found a fifth more of the gene fusions that matched drugs target.

## Summary

Concurrent RNA and DNA sequencing increased detection of driver gene fusions by 21 per cent compared with DNA sequencing alone, and 29 per cent of fusions detected were outside an FDA-approved indication. The full text describes Tempus xR as a whole-transcriptome RNA sequencing assay; the authors are Tempus staff.

- Authors: Gai L, Bowles B, Hockenberry AJ, et al.
- Findings: RNA plus DNA found 21% more driver fusions than DNA alone.; 29% of fusions were outside an approved indication.
- What it means: A tumour DNA test alone misses some fusions that have a matched drug.
- Caveats: Retrospective company database; authors employed by the maker.
