## TL;DR

The Paris classification is the shorthand (0-Ip, 0-Is, 0-IIa and so on) an endoscopist uses to describe the shape of an early growth in the gullet, stomach or bowel, which hints at how deep it may go.

## Summary

The Paris workshop of 2002 produced an endoscopic classification of superficial neoplastic lesions of the oesophagus, stomach and colon (Gastrointestinal Endoscopy 2003). A review of non-polypoid colorectal lesions (Facciorusso and colleagues, World Journal of Gastroenterology 2015) summarises the flat types: slightly elevated 0-IIa (under 2.5 mm), flat 0-IIb and slightly depressed 0-IIc. Depressed lesions carry a higher risk of invasion into the submucosa even when small, which affects whether a lesion can be removed endoscopically.
