## TL;DR

RTOG 9402 looked negative at first and then, with long follow-up, showed that adding PCV chemotherapy to radiotherapy doubles survival in oligodendrogliomas with 1p/19q co-deletion, from about seven to fourteen years.

## Summary

RTOG 9402 randomised 291 patients with anaplastic oligodendroglial tumours to four cycles of intensive procarbazine, lomustine and vincristine (PCV) followed by radiotherapy, or radiotherapy alone. Overall survival in the whole group did not differ at first, but in the 1p/19q co-deleted subgroup median survival was 14.7 years with PCV plus radiotherapy versus 7.3 years with radiotherapy alone (Cairncross and colleagues, Journal of Clinical Oncology 2013), a result mirrored by EORTC 26951. Chemoradiation with PCV became standard for co-deleted tumours, and the molecular marker entered the WHO classification.
