## Summary

Santé publique France was created in May 2016 by ordinance and decree as a public administrative body under the health ministry, from the merger of the Institut de veille sanitaire (InVS), the Institut national de prévention et d'éducation pour la santé (INPES), the health emergency body EPRUS and the Adalis drug and alcohol information service. Its own identity card gives 595 staff and a budget of 685 million euros, and its missions as surveillance and alert, preparedness, and prevention and health promotion.

For cancer it does three things a reader will meet. It publishes the participation figures for the national breast, colorectal and cervical screening programmes, which INCa's Panorama quotes. It is one of the four partners, with the Francim registry network, the biostatistics service of the Hospices Civils de Lyon and INCa, that model national incidence from the local registries; the 2023 estimate of 433,136 new cancers in metropolitan France was published in its Bulletin épidémiologique hebdomadaire. And its tobacco and alcohol barometers supply the risk-factor figures in the national statistics.
