## TL;DR

Sartorius makes the bags, filters, bioreactors and analytical instruments that biologics and cell therapy plants run on. Every antibody drug made in a single-use bioreactor depends on it or one of three competitors.

## Summary

Sartorius, founded in Göttingen in 1870 as a maker of laboratory balances, is one of the largest suppliers of bioprocess equipment and consumables: single-use bioreactors and bags (Biostat, Flexsafe), membranes and filters for sterile filtration and viral clearance, chromatography systems and the process analytics that go with them. Its Sartorius Stedim Biotech subsidiary is listed in Paris. Cancer drug makers meet it in every CHO plant and in most cell therapy suites, and its lead times became a bottleneck for the whole industry during the 2020 to 2022 vaccine build-out.
