## TL;DR

TARIS Biomedical made a small silicone device that sits in the bladder and slowly releases medicine there, aimed at bladder cancer. Johnson & Johnson bought it in 2019, and its first product, TAR-200, was developed further by J&J.

## Summary

TARIS Biomedical was a privately owned company developing drug delivery technology for bladder diseases including cancer. Its lead clinical-stage product, TAR-200, used the TARIS System, a silicone-based device that releases medication continuously into the bladder. Johnson & Johnson announced the acquisition on 20 December 2019 without disclosing terms; TARIS was to keep a research presence in Lexington, Massachusetts and join the oncology area of Janssen Research & Development. J&J says the technology arose from research at MIT's Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research. Third Rock Ventures describes TARIS as focused on urological disorders.
