## TL;DR

Tempus' blood test for leftover bowel cancer that needs no tumour sample, reported as ctDNA detected or not detected.

## Summary

Tempus describes xM as a tumour-naive assay for colorectal cancer that gives results from one blood draw to help detect residual disease or recurrence, reported as a binary ctDNA call with a quantitative result. Tempus also sells Personalis' tumour-informed whole-genome test under the name xM (NeXT Personal Dx). The evidence Tempus cites for the tumour-naive test is conference presentations from the GALAXY arm of CIRCULATE-Japan (ASCO 2024) and the VICTORI study (AACR 2025), not a peer-reviewed paper.

## Fields

- Kind: Test
- Status: emerging
- Last checked: 2026-11-03
- Tags: test
- Brand: Tempus xM
- Modality: Tumour-naive ctDNA minimal residual disease test
- Mechanism: A single blood draw is analysed with machine-learning models trained on Tempus' database to tell tumour-derived DNA fragments from normal ones, without first sequencing the tumour.

## Notes

- What a result means: as with Guardant Reveal, a tumour-naive result is quicker because no tumour sample is needed, and it may be less sensitive than a tumour-informed panel.
- Not confirmed: Medicare coverage (the product page lists none for this test and the MolDX billing article A58376 does not name it), the launch date and any FDA designation. Tempus' site refused automated reading on 3 November 2026, so the facts here come from an archived copy of the product page dated 16 March 2026.
