## TL;DR

ViroMissile engineers a vaccinia virus that can be given through a drip, survive in the blood and infect tumours throughout the body, where it is designed to kill cancer cells and rouse the immune system. Its viruses are in early trials in advanced solid tumours.

## Summary

ViroMissile, Inc. is a San Diego cancer immunotherapy company founded by Nanhai George Chen, previously a gene therapy professor at City of Hope and head of research at Genelux, who designed the chimeric vaccinia viruses its IDOV (Intravenously Deliverable Oncolytic Virus) platform uses. The company says its strain survives in the bloodstream, allowing systemic dosing. IDOV-Safe carries a safety switch to stop viral replication in healthy cells and has been given intravenously in an investigator-initiated and phase 1 setting, with data in pMMR/MSS metastatic colorectal cancer presented at ASCO 2026. IDOV-Immune adds immune-enhancing payloads; IDOV-Stealth and IDOV-AntiAngio are in development. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT06910657, a first-in-human phase 1 dose-escalation study of a single intravenous dose of IDOV-Immune in advanced solid tumours, run in Australia through ViroMissile Australia Pty Ltd and expanded to US sites after IND clearance in February 2026, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in April 2025. A third programme, IDOV-2, cleared its first phase 1 dose cohort in October 2026.
