## Summary

Yorkshire Cancer Research traces its origin to a meeting in Leeds on 21 May 1925 that set up the Yorkshire Council of the British Empire Cancer Campaign. Its history page credits its funding with supporting Craig Jordan's work on tamoxifen as a breast cancer treatment, early investment in photodynamic therapy and radiotherapy centres in Leeds and Hull. Today it funds researchers and services aimed at earlier diagnosis and better treatment for people in the region, including the Leeds Lung Health Check, a lung screening trial led by Professor Mat Callister at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, the Active Together exercise service developed in Sheffield, and a stop smoking support service. The charity says Yorkshire has nearly 8% of the UK population but receives about 5% of medical research funding. The Charity Commission register records latest income of about £27.7 million for the year ending 31 March 2025.
