It was first discussed in 2005 at the fourth New Horizons conference for CML and GIST patient groups in Dublin, started by patient leaders from Germany, Israel, the Czech Republic and the UK, and its website began in 2007. It is run independently by patients, led by a steering committee of nine advocates from all six world regions with Sarunas Narbutas as chairman, and hosted by the Leukemia Patient Advocates Foundation in Bern.
