He is the Getting It Right First Time national clinical lead for dermatology, national specialty lead for dermatology for the National Institute for Health and Care Research, a past president of the British Association of Dermatologists and of the British Society for Medical Dermatology, and chairs the national dermatology therapy and guidelines committee. He was awarded an MBE for services to the care of people with skin diseases in the King's Birthday Honours in 2024.\n\nThe GIRFT dermatology national specialty report he led, published in September 2021, is the source for most of what is publicly known about the shape of the English service: 508 whole-time-equivalent trained dermatologists against 159 vacant posts, at least ten trusts with no dermatologist at all, over 200,000 surgical excisions a year, and 79 doctors in the whole of England doing Mohs surgery in fewer than 30 centres.
