It was registered on 4 May 2004 as the National Association for Cancer Awareness, which its history page calls the first patient advocacy group in Oman, and was renamed the Oman Cancer Association in 2014. It works under the rules of the Ministry of Social Development and with the Ministry of Health, and its activities include awareness campaigns, clinical and self breast examination training, screening, patient empowerment, fundraising and advocacy. In 2015 it became a founding member of the International Cancer Prevention Consortium.
