It works the same way as the human myeloma drug selinexor.","summary":"Laverdia (verdinexor tablets) was conditionally approved by the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine in January 2021 through the Minor Use/Minor Species pathway and, after four annual renewals, received full approval under NADA 141-614 (Freedom of Information Summary dated 18 December 2025; FDA update of 16 January 2026), sponsored by Anivive Lifesciences, Inc., of Long Beach, California, for the treatment of lymphoma in dogs. The starting dose is 1.25 mg/kg by mouth twice a week, at least 72 hours apart, given with food.\n\nIn the field study of dogs with naive or relapsed B-cell or T-cell lymphoma (106 treated, 28 controls), median time to progression was 37 days (95% CI 29 to 57) with verdinexor against 23 days (14 to 30) in controls (P = 0.011). Verdinexor was studied as KPT-335 and blocks the same exporter, XPO1, as the human drug selinexor. It is a veterinary medicine and has no human approval.","asOf":"2026-11-04","links":[{"label":"FDA Consumer Update: My Dog Has Cancer: What Do I Need to Know?","url":"https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/my-dog-has-cancer-what-do-i-need-know"},{"label":"FDA Freedom of Information Summary, NADA 141-614 Laverdia (dated 18 December 2025)","url":"https://animaldrugsatfda.fda.gov/adafda/app/search/public/document/downloadFoi/17795"},{"label":"FDA CVM update, 16 January 2026: full approval of the first oral treatment for lymphoma in dogs","url":"https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/cvm-updates/fda-grants-full-approval-first-oral-treatment-lymphoma-dogs"},{"label":"Sadowski et al. 2018, BMC Vet Res: phase II study of KPT-335 (verdinexor) in dogs with lymphoma","url":"https://doi.org/10.1186/s12917-018-1587-9"}],"tags":["veterinary","comparative-oncology"],"related":["idea-bio1-comparative-oncology-dogs","veterinary-and-comparative-oncology","selinexor"],"cancers":[],"sections":[],"technologies":[],"targets":["xpo1"],"drugs":[],"companies":[],"institutions":[],"pathways":[],"terms":[],"trials":[],"people":[],"bottlenecks":[],"keyPapers":[],"journals":[],"dependsOn":[],"notes":[],"brand":"Laverdia","code":"KPT-335","modality":"small molecule (selective inhibitor of nuclear export)","mechanism":"A selective inhibitor of nuclear export that blocks chromosome region maintenance 1 (exportin 1, XPO1), keeping tumour suppressor and growth regulatory proteins in the nucleus where they control cell growth; the same mechanism as the human drug selinexor.","approvals":[],"mechanismSteps":["Cancer cells pump growth-controlling proteins out of the nucleus through the exporter XPO1","Verdinexor blocks XPO1","The tumour suppressor proteins stay in the nucleus and can halt cell growth again","Cells with damaged DNA, such as lymphoma cells, die"],"toxicity":[],"access":[],"regulatoryEvents":[]},"route":"/drugs/verdinexor/","neighbours":{"idea":[{"id":"idea-bio1-comparative-oncology-dogs","kind":"idea","name":"Pet dogs with spontaneous cancer as a bridge before human trials","route":"/ideas/idea-bio1-comparative-oncology-dogs/"}],"journal":[{"id":"veterinary-and-comparative-oncology","kind":"journal","name":"Veterinary and comparative oncology","route":"/journals/veterinary-and-comparative-oncology/"}],"drug":[{"id":"selinexor","kind":"drug","name":"Selinexor","route":"/drugs/selinexor/"}],"target":[{"id":"xpo1","kind":"target","name":"Exportin-1 (XPO1)","route":"/targets/xpo1/"}]}}
