It slowed prostate cancer in animals, but in people there is only a small safety trial in a precancerous prostate condition and a few case reports, which do not show it works.","summary":"Zyflamend is a dietary supplement containing ten herbal extracts, marketed for a healthy inflammation response and heart and joint function. Memorial Sloan Kettering's About Herbs summary describes antiproliferative effects in oral, pancreatic, melanoma and bladder cancer cells and slowed growth of hormone-sensitive and insensitive prostate cancer in an animal model. Human data are limited: a phase I trial in men with prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia found no serious adverse events and falls in C-reactive protein and NF-kappa-B, and a few cases of response to combination regimens including Zyflamend have been described in castration-resistant prostate cancer. MSK states more studies are warranted. Reported side effects are a bad taste, heartburn and diarrhoea. In preclinical work it added to the effects of gemcitabine, paclitaxel, doxorubicin and bicalutamide, and with ten herbs it can potentially interact with prescription drugs.","status":"phase-2","asOf":"2026-11-04","links":[{"label":"MSK About Herbs: Zyflamend (page last updated 20 January 2021)","url":"https://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/integrative-medicine/herbs/zyflamend"}],"tags":["complementary","supportive-care","evidence:insufficient"],"related":["curcumin-turmeric","ginger-nausea","beta-elemene"],"cancers":["prostate"],"sections":["supportive-care"],"technologies":["integrative-oncology","dietary-supplements-treatment-interactions"],"targets":[],"drugs":["gemcitabine","paclitaxel","doxorubicin","bicalutamide"],"companies":[],"institutions":[],"pathways":[],"terms":[],"trials":[],"people":[],"bottlenecks":["b-misinformation"],"keyPapers":[],"journals":[],"dependsOn":[],"notes":[],"principle":"A mixture including turmeric, ginger, green tea, holy basil and others, with COX-inhibiting and anti-inflammatory constituents in laboratory models.","strengths":["A phase 1 safety trial exists"],"limitations":["No controlled efficacy trial","Ten-herb mixture with interaction potential","Clinical responses only as case reports"]},"route":"/technologies/zyflamend/","neighbours":{"technology":[{"id":"beta-elemene","kind":"technology","name":"Beta-elemene","route":"/technologies/beta-elemene/"},{"id":"curcumin-turmeric","kind":"technology","name":"Curcumin and turmeric","route":"/technologies/curcumin-turmeric/"},{"id":"dietary-supplements-treatment-interactions","kind":"technology","name":"Dietary supplements during cancer treatment: interactions and harms","route":"/technologies/dietary-supplements-treatment-interactions/"},{"id":"integrative-oncology","kind":"technology","name":"Evidence-based integrative oncology","route":"/technologies/integrative-oncology/"},{"id":"ginger-nausea","kind":"technology","name":"Ginger for chemotherapy nausea","route":"/technologies/ginger-nausea/"}],"cancer":[{"id":"prostate","kind":"cancer","name":"Prostate cancer","route":"/cancers/prostate/"}],"section":[{"id":"supportive-care","kind":"section","name":"Supportive Care & Survivorship","route":"/fronts/supportive-care/"}],"drug":[{"id":"bicalutamide","kind":"drug","name":"Bicalutamide","route":"/drugs/bicalutamide/"},{"id":"doxorubicin","kind":"drug","name":"Doxorubicin","route":"/drugs/doxorubicin/"},{"id":"gemcitabine","kind":"drug","name":"Gemcitabine","route":"/drugs/gemcitabine/"},{"id":"paclitaxel","kind":"drug","name":"Paclitaxel / nab-paclitaxel","route":"/drugs/paclitaxel/"}],"bottleneck":[{"id":"b-misinformation","kind":"bottleneck","name":"Misinformation and unproven therapies","route":"/bottlenecks/b-misinformation/"}]}}
