Candel makes viral immunotherapies injected into tumours to trigger an immune attack. Its lead product, aglatimagene, improved disease-free survival when added to radiotherapy in localised prostate cancer in a phase 3 trial, and a US approval filing is planned for late 2026.
Overview
Candel Therapeutics is a Needham, Massachusetts clinical-stage company developing multimodal viral immunotherapies. Lead candidate aglatimagene besadenovec (CAN-2409), an adenoviral immunotherapy, showed a statistically significant improvement in disease-free survival when added to standard radiotherapy in a pivotal phase 3 trial in localised, intermediate- to high-risk prostate cancer (published in The Lancet Oncology); a BLA submission is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026 with a potential US launch in 2027. The global pivotal phase 3 AURORA trial in stage IV non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer progressing on pembrolizumab has opened enrolment. CAN-3110 (linoserpaturev), an HSV-based oncolytic immunotherapy, is being planned for a randomised phase 2 trial in recurrent glioblastoma. Candel had $201.6 million in cash at 30 June 2026 with runway into the first quarter of 2028. Nasdaq: CADL.
