CellVax Therapeutics makes a personal vaccine from a man's own prostate cancer cells, taken at surgery, to train the immune system against any cancer left behind. It is being tested after prostate removal in men at higher risk of the cancer coming back.
CellVax Therapeutics, of Miami, Florida, develops personalised tumour cell-based immunotherapy in which the patient's cancer cells are modified into what it calls Tumour Presenting Cells. Its timeline says clinical trials began in Brazil in 2001 and that CellVax Therapeutics was founded in the US in 2020, followed by technology transfer to the US in 2023 and IND clearance in 2024. Its lead product FK-PC101 is given intradermally, with BCG as an adjuvant for the first two doses, in an adaptive randomised phase 2 trial (NCT06636682) against standard care after radical prostatectomy in men with high-risk prostate cancer; the company reports first patients dosed at sites in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and central Ohio. A gastrointestinal cancer product, FK-GI101, is in manufacturing development with Cellipont Bioservices. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT06636682, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in October 2024.
