Immunomedics developed Trodelvy (sacituzumab govitecan), an antibody that carries chemotherapy to cancer cells carrying a protein called Trop-2, first approved for triple-negative breast cancer. Gilead bought the company in 2020.
Immunomedics, Inc. (formerly Nasdaq: IMMU), of Morris Plains, New Jersey, developed antibody-drug conjugates using a linker that releases its payload without needing an enzyme, so the drug also reaches neighbouring tumour cells. Its lead product, Trodelvy (sacituzumab govitecan-hziy), a Trop-2-directed ADC, received FDA accelerated approval in April 2020 for adults with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer after at least two prior therapies for metastatic disease, and the phase 3 ASCENT study had been stopped early for efficacy. Gilead agreed on 13 September 2020 to buy Immunomedics for USD 88 per share in cash, valuing it at about USD 21 billion, and the merger was completed on 23 October 2020.
