Overview
Kanvas Biosciences, headquartered at Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, with a West Coast site in South San Francisco, combines high-resolution spatial imaging of microbial communities with strain-resolved culturing and manufacturing to develop live biotherapeutic products. KAN-001 is a defined live biotherapeutic for non-small cell lung cancer intended to enhance response to immune checkpoint inhibitors, with preclinical data and manufacturing consistency presented in November 2025. KAN-004 is a metabolically complete live biotherapeutic for immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced colitis, for which a phase 1 trial was announced in March 2026. The company also offers microbiome research services and announced its own clinical manufacturing capabilities in 2025. In May 2026 Kanvas announced a USD 48 million Series A to bring its microbiome therapeutics to cancer patients; the Gates Foundation separately funds a malnutrition programme.
