Navari Surgical makes augmented reality software that overlays a view of structures inside an organ onto the camera image during keyhole or robotic cancer surgery. Its first product is for liver tumour operations and is being tested in a first feasibility study in patients.
Navari Surgical AB, at Lennart Torstenssonsgatan 8, Gothenburg, Sweden, began as a research collaboration between Chalmers University of Technology and Sahlgrenska University Hospital and was developed further through Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship, with mathematicians Klas Modin and Torbjörn Lundh. It makes a manufacturer-agnostic, software-based intraoperative augmented reality tool for minimally invasive surgery: a plug-and-play box that adds an AR layer to the existing surgical video feed and a tablet interface for the surgeon, with a single-use device covered by patents filed in 2022, 2024 and 2025. The first commercial product is aimed at liver cancer surgery; a feasibility and safety study of AR in liver tumour surgery is registered. The company reported proof of concept in a preclinical in vivo study in September 2023. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT07630610, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in June 2026. It closed a pre-seed investment of SEK 7.5 million in October 2022 and was granted Vinnova funding under the call Acceleration of deeptech companies in March 2025; it also states it is funded by the European Union.
