Trutino Biosciences engineers inactive versions of immune signalling proteins called cytokines that are switched on only inside tumours, aiming to boost the immune attack there without the severe side effects cytokines cause elsewhere. Its first, ODC-IL2, is in an early trial in advanced solid tumours.
Trutino Biosciences Inc., based in San Diego, California, was founded in 2018, according to the company, by its chief executive Phillip Kim. Its On-Demand-Cytokine (ODC) platform produces Zytokines, pro-cytokines engineered to be retained and activated at disease sites by tumour-associated proteases, for immuno-oncology and autoimmune disease. In June 2022 Boehringer Ingelheim signed an option to acquire all of Trutino's shares once specified milestones are reached, paying an option fee and funding a convertible note intended to finance the company to its next major milestone; Trutino continues as an independent company. The FDA cleared the IND for its lead candidate in December 2024, and a phase 1 dose escalation and expansion study of ODC-IL2 in advanced or metastatic solid tumours (NCT06770764) is registered. Founded in 2018, according to the company. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT06770764, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in January 2025.
