Xerient develops a way to protect the bowel next to the pancreas during radiotherapy, so that pancreatic tumours can be treated with radiation more safely. Its XER-001 is in an early trial with stereotactic radiotherapy for locally advanced pancreatic cancer.
Xerient is based in Houston, Texas, and focuses on abdominal and gastrointestinal cancers. XER-001 repurposes an already approved drug, amifostine, delivered through a nasoduodenal route, to protect the duodenum during radiotherapy. The phase 1/2a trial NCT07157033 combines XER-001 with stereotactic body radiotherapy in locally advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma, at sites including City of Hope and Karmanos Cancer Institute. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT07157033, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in September 2025.
