A national cancer hospital and research institute in Kolkata, run as an autonomous body under India's Ministry of Health, with a second 460-bed campus at New Town.
The Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital was formally inaugurated on 2 January 1950 with the support of Dr B. C. Roy, then Chief Minister of West Bengal, and named after Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, whose land and property were donated to the cause. A research centre funded by the Government of India followed in 1957, and the two were later merged into the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute.
CNCI describes itself as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Its original campus is at Hazra, Kolkata; a second campus at New Town with a 460-bed hospital was inaugurated on 7 January 2022 and now carries radiotherapy on two high-energy linear accelerators. The institute runs clinical services alongside basic and clinical research and a PhD programme.
