The Hospital de Oncología of the Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI is the principal cancer hospital of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, the social security system covering most formally employed Mexicans and their families. It provides surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiotherapy, haematology, nuclear medicine and palliative care as a national referral centre, trains a large proportion of Mexico's oncologists through IMSS residency programmes, and hosts an oncology research unit within the IMSS Coordinación de Investigación en Salud.
