The University of Alberta is a public research university in Edmonton. Its Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation houses one of the world's leading exercise oncology groups, led by Kerry Courneya, who was first author of the 2025 New England Journal of Medicine report of the CHALLENGE trial, in which a three-year structured exercise programme improved disease-free and overall survival after adjuvant chemotherapy for colon cancer. Clinical cancer care in Edmonton is provided by the Cross Cancer Institute of Cancer Care Alberta.
