Thirty-two new cancer drugs reviewed in Korea between 2017 and 2020 took on average 36.7 months to reach the insurance list, and the drugs listed at lower prices relative to other countries were listed faster.
Anticancer drugs among new drugs reviewed between January 2017 and March 2020 were analysed for reimbursement coverage, time to listing and listing price after the introduction of alternative pricing and reimbursement pathways. Thirty-two drugs were included. Average time to listing was 36.7 months. The listing price was 12.6 to 90.2 per cent of the average adjusted price in seven reference countries, and the ratio of listing price to the external reference price correlated with time to listing (Pearson r -0.37, p 0.035).
In this period a new cancer drug typically took about three years after approval to be covered by Korean insurance, and the faster route was a lower price.
