PredOmix, an Indian company, reported that a blood test reading thousands of small molecules by mass spectrometry told 30 cancers from no cancer with about 98% accuracy in 6,445 people; the paper gives few further details.
Nagarkar and colleagues (HCG cancer centres with PredOmix Technologies, Gurugram) profiled serum metabolites by untargeted liquid chromatography and high-resolution mass spectrometry and applied the company's machine-learning algorithm in an investigator-initiated trial of 6,445 participants, cancer patients and non-cancer volunteers (CTRI/2023/03/050316). The abstract reports that the platform detected 30 cancers in women and men with an average accuracy of about 98%, and that accuracy did not vary across the four stages. It builds on the company's earlier test for 15 cancers in women (Gupta et al., Scientific Reports 2023).
The abstract gives an average accuracy but no sensitivity at a stated specificity, no numbers of cancers by type or stage and no screening result; accuracy this high in early cancers has not been reproduced by any other multi-cancer test and needs independent confirmation.
