At the Philippine General Hospital, 251 patients treated for colorectal cancer under PhilHealth's Z package from 2016 to 2018 mostly completed their treatment, and 70 per cent were alive at three years.
The University of the Philippines, Philippine General Hospital Colorectal Polyp and Cancer Study Group reviewed three years of data on patients enrolled in the Z package colorectal cancer benefit, a national insurance package for early to locally advanced colorectal cancer, at the pilot site.
A package that pays for the whole course of treatment, delivered by a multidisciplinary team, kept most patients on treatment; the authors judge the survival comparable with data from more developed countries.
