FERMT2
FERMT2 (Fermitin family homolog 2) is a gene. In the public catalogues the evidence so far is association rather than a proven role.
Overview
Scaffolding protein that enhances integrin activation mediated by TLN1 and/or TLN2, but activates integrins only weakly by itself. Binds to membranes enriched in phosphoinositides. Enhances integrin-mediated cell adhesion onto the extracellular matrix and cell spreading; this requires both its ability to interact with integrins and with phospholipid membranes.
Open Targets scores its association with cancer at 0.54 (direct and indirect evidence; datatypes literature 0.98, affected pathway 0.43, genetic association 0.61).

No product in this corpus aims at FERMT2 yet. Drugs bind the molecule precisely: to switch it off, flag the cell for the immune system, or deliver a payload.

Biology
Scaffolding protein that enhances integrin activation mediated by TLN1 and/or TLN2, but activates integrins only weakly by itself. Binds to membranes enriched in phosphoinositides. Enhances integrin-mediated cell adhesion onto the extracellular matrix and cell spreading; this requires both its ability to interact with integrins and with phospholipid membranes. Required for the assembly of focal adhesions. Participates in the connection between extracellular matrix adhesion sites and the actin cytoskeleton and also in the orchestration of actin assembly and cell shape modulation. Recruits FBLIM1 to focal adhesions. Location: Cytoplasm; Cytoplasm, cell cortex; Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton; Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, stress fiber (UniProt). Locus 14q22.1 (HGNC).
Notes
top- Written by scripts/fetch-cancer-genes.ts from CIViC, Open Targets, IntOGen, HGNC and UniProt; the function text is UniProt's, condensed and in UK spelling. Roles: none stated by the sources. Evidence tier "association-only" is the strongest of those signals.
- Prevalence not recorded: none of the sources gives a positivity rate.
