HLF
HLF (Transcription factor HLF) is a protein that switches other genes on and off. The public catalogues list it as a fusion partner, and the evidence so far is association rather than a proven role.
Overview
Transcription factor which selectively binds with high affinity to the consensus sequence 5'-GTTACGTAAT-3' and to closely related sites. Has transcriptional activator activity. Also has transcriptional repressor activity.
Open Targets scores its association with cancer at 0.65 (direct and indirect evidence; datatypes literature 0.90, genetic association 0.20, somatic mutation 0.82).

- 1 · What it is

- 2 · What goes wrong in cancer
Transcription factor which selectively binds with high affinity to the consensus sequence 5'-GTTACGTAAT-3' and to closely related sites. Has transcriptional activator activity.
- 3 · How drugs use it
No product in this corpus aims at HLF yet. Transcription factors have no pocket to plug, so drugs either degrade them or block the partner protein they need to dock on DNA.

Biology
Transcription factor which selectively binds with high affinity to the consensus sequence 5'-GTTACGTAAT-3' and to closely related sites. Has transcriptional activator activity. Also has transcriptional repressor activity. Binds to multiple sites in the promoter regions of coagulation factors F8 and F9 and activates transcription; transactivation activity is enhanced by formation of a heterodimer with DBP. Binds to the promoter region of IRF2 and activates transcription. Maintains quiescence of haematopoietic stem cells under steady-state conditions and protects the stem cell pool from toxic insults. Location: Nucleus (UniProt). Locus 17q22 (HGNC).
Notes
top- Written by scripts/fetch-cancer-genes.ts from CIViC, Open Targets, IntOGen, HGNC and UniProt; the function text is UniProt's, condensed and in UK spelling. Roles: UniProt disease notes describe a translocation or gene fusion involving the gene. Evidence tier "association-only" is the strongest of those signals.
- Prevalence not recorded: none of the sources gives a positivity rate.
